Changes and uncertainty have come
swiftly since the spring, requiring us to do
our part to protect ourselves and each
other. What has remained constant though
is Manitobans’ passion to help those who
have faced the burden of cancer during
these past seven months. As Challengers
have done every
year for 13 years,
they rose to the
occasion once
again and raised
funds in support
of all cancers.
They could not gather for our
annual in-person
event so instead,
this past August
Manitobans from every corner of our
province demonstrated their dedication
to the cause through their own individual
Challenge events. Practising physical
distancing or staying within their bubbles,
they walked, cycled, kayaked, swam and
did so many more activities as part of the
first-ever virtual Challenge. Their personal
motivations are amazing and inspiring.
“I registered for Challenge for Life as a
gesture of appreciation for the remarkable
and compassionate care I have received as
a patient at CancerCare Manitoba. The staff
are always welcoming and caring. The quality
of medical care is second to none,” said Ted,
cyclist and first-time Challenger from Morden.
Ted was one of over 665 participants from
65 Manitoba communities, who along with
longstanding sponsors
and thousands of
donors, raised an
incredible $1.053
million. Thanks to
them, these funds will
help CancerCare
Manitoba continue its leading-edge cancer
research, offer clinical trials and provide the
best patient care.
The need to act will not diminish in 2021.
While the plans for next year’s Challenge
are not quite yet set in stone, we hope you will join
us to help raise the bar even higher!
