Donation of Stocks, Bonds and Mutual Funds
You can get tax benefits – and help Kingston lead a long and full life – by donating your stocks, bonds and mutual funds directly to the Foundation.
A gift of marketable securities can be a tax-effective way for you to make a donation in support of Kingston. The tax on your investment’s capital gain (the difference between what you paid for the securities and their current value) is reduced to zero.
This doubles the savings for you as there are no taxes on the capital gain and you receive a charitable tax receipt for the value of the securities, just as if you donated the equal amount in cash.
Securities eligible for gifting to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation are listed securities or publicly traded securities, which include:
- Stocks and bonds
- Treasury bills
- Mutual funds offered by most Canadian mutual fund management companies
We recommend you submit the Securities Transfer Form no later than Tuesday, December 17 to your financial advisor to have your gift count toward this tax year. For self-managed gifts of securities, we recommend you submit a Letter of Direction to your Financial Institution or Discount Broker.
Donor Advised Funds
When making a gift through your Donor Advised Fund, we ask you to take the following steps:
- Contact sloewen16@cancercare.mb.ca to advise that the gift will be coming. This ensures that your gift will be recognized and you can remain informed of the impact of your generosity.
- Ask your host company to ensure your contact information is shared with The Foundation. This will allow us to confirm receipt of your gift, which is not always possible without your express consent.
Thank you for considering a gift in support of Kingston. Your gift today may help discover new treatments for leukemias.
