Shine a Light this December for someone you cherish.

Light is seen as a symbol of life, hope, guidance and truth. This coming December a light display in the darkest month of the year will inspire, encourage, and uplift those touched by cancer while raising funds in support of CancerCare Manitoba.

1,250 lights will shine for all to see in December at the CancerCare Manitoba building at 675 McDermot Ave. representing those we cherish in memory, honour today, and for the people providing care along the way.

Donate today to Shine a Light
Please click on the type of light you wish to shine.

Honouree names from donations made before November 13 are displayed in front of the light display at the lighting ceremony on December 2.

Honouree names for donations made between November 13 and December 1 will be added to the display the week of December 16.

For donations made after December 1, honourees will be posted on our online display only.

How to Get Involved
We are currently accepting Shine a Light donations for the 2024 display.

  1. Make a donation of $100 to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation in memory, honour or gratitude.

  2. For each $100 donation made, a light bulb will shine in recognition of the chosen honouree at the CancerCare building on McDermot throughout December.

  3. You may choose to send an electronic card to the honouree or a printed card which CancerCare Manitoba Foundation will send on your behalf with a message of choice. You can also print your own blank card to give at a time of your choosing. Please note that we are unable to notify individuals that a light is shining outside the card that is sent at your request. If you choose to not send a card we encourage you to still share information about Shine a Light with those you wish to know a light is shining.

  4. Don’t delay, only 1,250 lights are available.

The Display

Strings of white lights will hang in the stairwell windows of the CancerCare Manitoba building from the 7th to main floor, illuminating the surrounding area. Each light represents an individual whose name is also recognized on the listing placed in the windows as part of the display.

Lighting Ceremony

The lights will be turned on December 2, 2024 at 5:00pm. A brief lighting ceremony will take place and you are welcome to attend. If you have chosen to Shine a Light for someone and do not send a card to notify them, you may wish to invite them to this event. We will gather outside CancerCare Manitoba for a special time to honour and reflect on each individual being recognized as the lights are turned on. The lights will shine throughout December and into the New Year.
