Corporate Champions: Hewlett Packard Enterprises "Tech Walkers"

Hewlett Packard Enterprises provides global technology that helps businesses thrive, but on a local level the Winnipeg HP office is "powering up" to connect and support the community. Known as the "Tech Walkers", eight employees from HP Enterprises will participate in this year's CancerCare Manitoba Challenge for Life, with a goal of raising more than $10,000. "Cancer hits everyone," says team member Janice Malo. "We all have someone in our family or friend's family who have had cancer. It's a really important cause."
The Tech Walkers are more than 80 percent toward reaching their goal, with the help of individual donations and a successful social that not only raised funds, but also awareness about the Challenge for Life. Hewlett Packard has also donated a laptop that the team will raffle off to raise money. The local office is planning a "make your own sandwich" day, says Malo, where employees can order up custom-made sandwiches (ingredients supplied by the team) and make a minimum donation.
Coworkers have been "very supportive" in fundraising efforts and talking up the event, adds Malo. Team members are encouraging each other to get in some extra walking to make sure they're fit to complete the 20kilometre event.
While participating in the Challenge for Life "helps to keep yourself fit and maintain a healthy lifestyle," Malo notes, there are other good reasons to get involved. "It's a great cause. We can one day envision the end of cancer and this is helping work toward that goal."
