have great weather for the Challenge, THIS IS A RAIN
OR SHINE EVENT, so please dress appropriately. NOTE: Please

others walking near or beside you.
In the event that weather conditions may compromise the safety of
event participants, our general office line at 927-5433 will be updated with

ISSUE 5 - January 13, 2010

Happy New Year! We hope you all had a wonderful holiday season and are ready to tackle those New Year resolutions. One great way to kick start those resolutions is to join us Tuesday, January 26 from 7-9pm for our FREE 3rd Annual Challenge for Life Health and Fitness Expo. Hot 103's Ace Burpee and many of our health and fitness partners will be on hand for the kickoff to this year's Challenge.
Whether you're a new or returning participant - or you simply want to see what it's all about - this is the perfect opportunity to visit with CancerCare Manitoba staff, enter exciting prize draws and have a fun evening with Ace. This year, we will be at the Caboto Centre, 1055 Wilkes Avenue near Waverley. It's centrally located with lots of easy and FREE parking.
Bring a friend!!
We've MOVED! The Challenge for Life has left its old office on Broadway and we are busy unpacking boxes and settling into our new 'digs'! Kelly House, the oldest house in the Exchange district, is located at 88 Adelaide Street (Michael Kelly and his brother were contractors whose company's endeavors included the Shoal Lake Aqueduct).
With lots of street parking, we're much more accessible to visitors now. We're also closer to "home", as the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation continues to keep its main office in the CancerCare building at 675 McDermot Avenue.
While the outside of the building won't be completed until the spring, the inside has been restored to its former glory and we're looking forward to welcoming you there!
Walking groups - Let us know if you have a group going and would like to add some new members, or if you're interested in leading training walks in your area. We'd be happy to publicize the walks on the Web site event calendar and through the E-News. Call Elaine at 927-LIFE (5433).
Planning a fundraiser for yourself or your team? Be sure to let us know so we can add it to our calendar!
That's it for the first 2010 edition of Challenge E-News. We look forward to seeing you at the Kickoff on Tuesday, January 26!

First, when you visit the Challenge for Life Web site, you'll see it's now housed on CancerCare Manitoba Foundation's brand new Web site, www.cancercarefdn.mb.ca. The Foundation Web site is still under construction, but will be an exciting resource for everyone. Stay tuned for updates!
Register now and get a head start on your fundraising and fitness goals! Registration is still only $25 and includes: 2010 Challengers Card, your own personal fundraising Web page, the NEW Official Challenger t-shirt and all the support you will need to achieve your goals. Head to the Challenge for Life Web site and then follow the links to register for 2010.
It really was an honour to be nominated! The Challenge for Life received a nomination for The Province of Manitoba's Enid Thompson Award for Health Care Innovation. We didn't win, but were proud that CancerCare Manitoba's own Chad Harris, Medical Devices and Richard Driedger, Nuclear Electronics did! We are especially proud that their project was funded by the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation! Chad and Richard designed and installed a specially-shielded DVD player, protected from the radiation and an adjustable mobile stand, to give children something else to focus on during their radiation therapy treatments.
Read more about how the Foundation supported this project and the little girl who inspired it.

We were pleased to see so many Challengers out to CancerCare Manitoba's Healthy Living Expo on Saturday, September 26. We were particularly pleased that Debbie Lewis, one of our Challengers and a stalwart Training Walk leader, was tapped to lead the "Moths into Butterflies" Fitness workshop (picture at left).

Hello everyone! We hope you had a wonderful summer - and are enjoying the summer weather now that it has finally arrived (better late than never!).
We have been working hard on plans for the upcoming Challenge 2010 which will be held on Saturday, June 12th and we will be emailing you more details next month.
In the meantime, we are thrilled to invite you to CancerCare Manitoba's upcoming Healthy Living Expo, taking place Saturday, September 26th. Please take a moment to forward this invitation on to your friends, family and supporters/donors. This is a wonderful opportunity for them to see, "up close and personal," the incredible organization you have chosen to support with your invaluable time, talent and treasure.
For your convenience, we've drafted the message below - feel free to personalize/change/eliminate it as you see fit.
We are also looking for some Challenge participants to join us on the treadmill at the Challenge info booth. If you can commit 15-30 minutes to help us promote this great event, please call Kate at 787-1334. Thank you and we hope to see you on September 26th.
The Challenge Team
